The Matanuska Glacier is the largest and most magnificent glacier in Alaska with road access. We will drive you to within about 1/2 mile of the face of the glacier, where we'll start our hike. We'll be hiking on the glacier for between an hour and a half and two hours, and walk about 2 miles. There is very little elevation change, and the hike difficulty is rated as moderate.
The glacier is a little over a two-hour drive from Anchorage. We will stop about half way there for a restroom break, where you will also have the opportunity to purchase coffee and snacks. Sandwiches and bottled water are provided for lunch, which we will eat after leaving the glacier. You will have the opportunity to inform us of any food allergies or preferences before we purchase lunch.
Available at our half-way stop in the morning.
Pictures from your guide. Any photos we take will be made available to you free of charge.
Please be prepared to add a gratuity for your glacier guide if he or she provides great service.
We'll stop on our way to the glacier, where guests will be able to purchase lunch. There is a cooler onboard the van to keep food fresh while we're on the glacier.

A++ Experience
Chris_C, 05-12-2022
Booked this trip to celebrate a retirement with co-workers. Ryan was a great host
He arrived on time to pick-up our group at the hotel, was very clear on what to expect during the 8 hour trip, and our group enjoyed the conversation with him to make the 2 hour drive to Matanuska more interesting.
The glacier experience it self was amazing. Highly recommended and worth the price of admission if you can make the time commitment work when you are in Anchorage.

I want to begin by thanking our guide Ryan personally for the wonderful experience during our glacier visit. He made me feel like family, and his vast knowledge of Alaska glaciers is remarkable. I have nothing but praise. Thank you again for visiting Alaska soon.
The best experience ever

The walk on the Matanuska glacier was great. The view cannot be described in words. Ryan from Tentcity is an excellent tour guide and very helpful. He takes only small groups. The tour guide on the glacier was Chris and he too was excellent, helpful and knowledgeable.
Fantastic Glacier Experience

Ryan (the driver) and Chris (tour guide) are amazing and knowledgeable. The walk to the glacier is about half a mile so you should wear proper shoes and be ready to get them silted (silt is a sort of ice mud). It’s my first time on the glacier and i found the whole experience with my family a special one. The views are fantastic! Got to drink also the water melting from the glacier. I highly recommend this tour!
